Podcast: Post-Berlin Discussion and Answering Readers’ Questions Part 3 of 5
Matt Wang | November 21, 2008 | 4:00 amPost Berlin and Readers Comments Part 3
BDM, MichaelJ, and Wilson Price of Progress discuss the 9th through
16th place decks from Pro Tour Berlin. While the Top 8 was dominated
by Elves the next 8 decks were dominated by diversity with cards as
diverse as Fecundity and Azami, Lady of Scrolls populating the lists.
With Worlds on the horizon and a PTQ season not far behind will any of
these decks dethrone Elves as the king of the Extended hill?
BDM, Michaelj, and Wilson PoP answer the Top8Magic comments section
with a discussion of everything from smattering of basketball talk
(ranging from LeBron and company in Cleveland to why BDM thinks the
Knicks will make the playoffs), the impact of Rewind on the creation
on Cryptic Command, the new season of Top Chef, why Tom hates
Chinatown, and Elves, Elves, Elves!

Pretty sure it was this one that BDM mentions hating the Phillies… and I’m pretty sure you are a Mets fan… so two words from a lifelong Phillies fan.
World Series.
Or two more.
Jimmy Rollins.
Couldn’t resist.
First, Brian is right about baseball. Even though it has been more scientifically dissected than any other sport, it seems to be a more or less rationless wasteland of emotion and rage. When I say “lousy East Coast teams,’” that doesn’t mean that East Coast teams are bad. The Red Sox are clearly the best team in Major League Baseball, and I think the Rays are in second. All it means is that I HATE the Red Sox and Yankees, who are the only Northeastern teams that actually matter (a lucky streak from the Phillies not-withstanding).
Secondly, and this one was a shocker to me, Mike doesn’t like Jenny’s solo material? I agree that Rilo Kiley is, in general, much better. However, Rabbit Fur Coat was as good as any Rilo Kiley record (save maybe two songs that could have been cut) and Acid Tongue wasn’t any worse than Under the Blacklight (both of which deserve an 8.5/10, in my opinion).
Secondly, re: the Phillies, have the Phils won more or less World Series in the past 108 years than the Mets have in their 35 or so years of existence? I mean, the Athletics have won more World Series both before and since they left Philly than the Phils ever have (5 in Pennsylvania, 4 in California)(obviously, I myself am a full time A’s fan).
