Hey Christian, sorry about not getting the invite. I was hoping you would, I saw you had a pretty sick pool get the Top 8 at least.

As for the draft, I agree that P1P1 was the biggest issue. I can think maybe at least 3 red common removals over it. And even in some decks, Soul's Fire is awkward and also, Sphinx is just a bomb.
P1P2: That's a bit of a tough pick, I would've went with Bolt.

Other than that, it was a so-so Naya fattie deck. Not too much you could've done. As for GCB's comments, I hate hindsight in draft. You draft based on what you have, not what might've had.

Good luck next time, if you're going to Edison or whatever.

first, thanks for cropping the article. second. I think that jumping from 'red cards' to grixis is perfectly reasonable p1p3. You maybe give up your bull cerodon, that sucks. Dealwith it, Grixis is just a ston'es throw from the best shard, esper... and if you are in grixis then you have an opening to bull cerodon anyway if you can pick up an obelisk or tri-land in esper. I know you were sitting on your red pick, and ultimatum is a huge commitment, but thrd pick meant you were gonna get FED some meat in pack three.

I really think that passing the ultimatum hurt you also because it opened up grixis to your left which meant that you weren't going to be getting the same red cards in your second pack. I'm not even talking about grixis stamped things, but even just magma sprays and vithian stingers that all red decks really want. Signalling that grixis is open virtually guarantees that your neighbour is going to be in some form of red whch means that you are losing virtually an entire pack of good red cards.

GAbe, awesome jo with the draft cap, I really enjoyed reading the three opinions on the picks, and while Christian may have been abit biased about his picks (he did made them after all), I think that you and MAtt did a good job being honest about where he may have gone wrong.

I think that Naya can be a really strong archetype, but it depends on a lot of factors going your way. I really think that Christian would have been better going grixis or trying to force jund as both of those combinations are a bit more lenient than naya. with no 2cc anima accelerators, no draw a card 5-power guy (godspeaker?) and no serious forms of removal (magma spray, stinger, oblivion ring) I think that the naya deck was facing an uphill battle the entire way through the bracket, and in hindsight you would have most certainly been better off against the bant deck you faced in the top 8 with grixis than with naya. Bone Splinters alone would have given you a lot more maneuverability in that matchup.

Anyways.

Thanks for putting this up gabe, and congrats on the top8 Christian.

BDM: I declare myself the winner by default of the rogue deck contest. where's my shirt? :D
