this is the best segment of the three imo. great idea/analysis about evaluating trips to small ptqs. i’d never really thought about it in those terms. there certainly are a number of concentrated areas of high caliber players. i’m interested in trying it out.

i liked the breakdown of the car ratios too, btw. last weekend 1/2 our car made top8 at the ptq here in sf/san jose. i’ll have to keep track of that. –or were you just bs’ing about the figures there? ;-)

I think it also interesting to mention that, sometimes, you feel the force of a local metagame much more strongly during a smaller tournament. Last week I went to a Kobe GPT here in Nagoya (40 players, which is, ironically, larger than any ptq here, except for the one in Osaka), and you definitely see how the general area likes to play their magic. Exactly one person in the entire room was playing Faeries, a handful of TEPS and burn, with everyone else playing Zoo or Life from the Loam decks (with many more people casting the Ravnica sorcery than Wild Nacatl). And, looking at PTQ results throughout this particular region, it appears to be a trend. Interesting.

I can’t wait to see the metagame breakdown of Kobe, just too see if it’s a similar breakdown.
