Podcast: Jund Ramp Burger Cast Part 1 5/15
Will Price | May 15, 2009 | 3:11 pmMike and Will talk up the Jund deck one last time the day before Regionals.
Note/Correction: The Fog deck discussed plays Negate in addition to Cryptic Command, meaning the Primal Command strategy mentioned may not be so absolute. However, it seems likely that the Negates would get boarded out in game 2 when the opponent sees they can only counter Gift of the Gargantuan and Rampant Growth with it. The damage strategy used to win game applies to game 2 as well.

very solid stuff.
come on guys!! these are great discussions. why are you doing them in shitty locations? it diminishes the value by 100x. booo!
I’m just an armchair spike that doesn’t play anmore but monitors the meta, so I’ve been really digging the podcasts. keep it up.
a few questions:
1) people discussing the deck onlone all keep dissing the Gifts, but yall act like they are the engine that drives this beast. What turns are you casting them and how often do you not hit the 2 for 1 draw? What are some typical decisions on critters? I want to beleive in green card draw that is e worth influencing deck design to minimize non-creactures, so drop some scenarios to help me see the light.
2)maelstrom pulse seems so versatile, and answers so many issues you mentioned like Runed Halo, Ajani, Lord of Extinction, etc. I understand wanting to minimize sorceries, and I realize its only rarely a 2 for 1, and I heard your sideboard potency philosophy, but it still seems like you might hit a matchup where you really want that flexibility as an option.
3) Did you test Farhaven Elf over Civic Wayfinder? Is the 2/2 body always better than a faster ramp? Wouldn’t the ramp effect of the 1/1 allow you to reach phase3 a turn earlier?
4) could mageslayer be a good enough sideboard card for fog decks? Pretty good on a cloudthresher… how many attack phases do you think you get before they deck you? Runed Halo seems like a huge beating in this matchup, sure having some enchnmant killer in the SB isn;t a good idea? Not knowing how the deck plays out, could attacking the artifacts witht he new RG uktabi help at all? Not sure how vulnerable they are to Borderpost Annihilation, or if killing a font of mythos really helps you at all…
I thought the audio was listenable. Better than the cast a month or so ago when you were walking in the wind anyway :).
It’s good that you guys are now posting them as they are recorded so they are relevant, rather than waiting for the other guy to post them a month later when the discussions are outdated.
All the fog lists I’ve seen play a Beacon of Immortality or a way to kill you like Borderposts and Tezzeret. Anyway, spending half an hour talking about how your deck can’t lose to one hypothetical version of one deck is kind of a waste.
I don’t know why my post didn’t work earlier, but I tried to say that this is solid stuff.
