RareDrafting Worldwake

bdm | February 26, 2010 | 1:30 am

Just wanted to share a quick draft I did that was Zen-Zen-WWK on MTGO. I was seriously torn on the first pick between the Skyfisher and the Sovereign but the Skyfisher is easily my most drafted playable common — I think I have more Beast Hunts and Scythe Tigers than any other 10 commons combined. I got passed a Sphinx of Jwar Isle and did not look back. I had been hoping to be blue white allies but I was fine with them being just a sub-theme. The main theme of the deck was Basilisk Collar and I ran the table without much incident.

Take a look and feel free to ask in the comments section about any of the picks.

Any thought that Kracken Hatchling might have been a better pick in pack 2 pick 6 than steppe lynx. It seemed like you were stacked with some late bombs at that point and having a solid defender you could drop down turn one might have been better than a steppe lynx. Steppe lynx isn’t a bad pick there, was just wondering what you were thinking at the time.

Man how I wish Kraken Hatchling had defender now that perimeter captain is out and usually able to be had in mid rounds of the WW pack.

Two picks confused me. P1P3, you take Ondu Cleric, passing Gigantiform? It turned out that the rest of that pack didn’t contain good green, but how were you to know that at pick 3?

Also, P2P5, you take Cancel, passing Windborn Charge? You would have further opportunities to get Cancel, and indeed you got another one, but that was yor only shot at a game-winning play in Windborn Charge.

I enjoyed your tournament coverage this past week. Great interviews!

I would have taken the GF and the Windborne Charge as well.

P3P8 Surrakar Banisher can be devastating in a race, but I feel Battle Hurda is more consistent. 3/3 first strike can stop the alpha strike, and, of course, combined with P3P1 Basilisk Collar, it’s unstoppable short of serious removal.
