Podcast: HeezyCast

bdm | 08:49PM on Tue Aug 2 2011

HeezyCast

While I was away MichaelJ got lonely and called up Hall of Fame hopeful Mark Herberholz. I honestly have no idea what they talked about — it could be anything. I am going to listen to it as soon as it goes live (don’t try this method at home!) and you should do the same. Before I have to take it down.

Podcast: Not so Quickcast

bdm | 08:42PM on Tue Aug 2 2011

Quickcast

I have had this podcast stranded since before leaving for San Diego Comic Con. This was Michael J Flores and I grabbing a quick half and hour before my trip to discuss the Hall of Fame ballots and various eligible candidates. Sorry for the delay.

Podcast: CarmeloCasting with MichaelJ, Sadin, and a Special Guest

bdm | 05:07PM on Thu Mar 3 2011

Carmelo Cast

Anyone who follows me (@Top8Games) or Steve Sadin (@stevesadin) on Twitter is probably aware of how excited we were about the Carmelo Anthony trade that has brought him to the New York Knicks. Anyone who follows Mike (@fivewithflores) knows what a basketball fan he is and it was impossible for us to not get together and chat about the trade, argue about the merits of various players, and — once the dust settled — talk plenty about Magic as well.

The original plan for the podcast was to talk while Mike’s daughter Bella took her karate class. The class got canceled and Bella was available to set us straight on what cards Steve should have played in his deck for Magic Weekend in Paris, who wins in a fight between Jace and Great Sable Stag, and what the best Planeswalker actually is. Here is a hint:

This should have been posted sooner but circumstances entirely within my control conspired to delay it. Shortly after this goes up I will be headed over to Katz’s Delicatessen for what will hopefully become Katz Kast with several dozen Magic players including the likes of out-of-towners Gerry Thompson, Megan Holland, and Gavin Verhey who are all visiting for the SCG Open Series in Edison, New Jersey this weekend.

Podcast: Suspension of Disbelief

bdm | 03:09PM on Fri Dec 3 2010

Suspension of Disbelief

When Mike and I first started doing podcast — roughly 5 years ago!?! — we would break them up into smaller segments for the benefit of people with slower internet connections and other reasons lost to the mists of time. Recently people have begun to ask for longer podcasts — and since I only ever succeed in getting Part 1 to show up in iTunes — so we thought we would experiment with a longer form podcast this week.

We found ourselves back in Grand Central Station and wandering back up through Times Square talking about everything from the Saito DQ — which has since become the titular suspension for 18 months — to other Hall of Famers to basketball and comics. For those of you not interested in the latter it doesn’t happen until well into the second hour and most people must have stopped listening by that point anyway. Right?

Been Awhile… Part 3

bdm | 01:35PM on Mon Aug 16 2010

The last few times Mike and I have tried to podcast we have gotten derailed by an M11 draft or actually testing Standard for this coming weekend’s US National Championships, which we are both qualified to play in. After a recent playtest session Mike and I stuck around for an extra hour — after finally remembering how to turn on the casting device — and chat about Magic in general and the Hall of Fame in particular.

Around the Web: 2009 Pro Tour Hall of Fame Ballots

bdm | 06:24PM on Thu Jul 2 2009

The ballots for the fifth class of the Pro Tour Hall of Fame have gone out and 2009 is shaping up to be an interesting year as many people see this year’s crop of pros as a potential “catch-up” season for a handful of players like Steve OMS, Chris Pikula, Justin Gary, Scott Johns, William Jensen, Mark Justice, Mike Long, and a host of others.  Antoine Ruel and Kamiel Cornelissen are the only two people new to the ballot with numbers that leap off the page so there is clearly room for someone from year’s past to make a move. Here are all the players on this year’s ballot (which includes players still eligible from previous ballots). Read the rest of this entry »
